Budding gymnasts are invited to try out for new gym scholarships at Adcote School.

The gymnastics squad at Adcote has established a national reputation over the past three years, winning Shropshire, Midlands and National team and individual events in all age groups.  It is hoped the new award – one of 11 different categories of scholarships for entry in September 2017 – will attract the highest calibre gymnasts to the all-girls school. Adcote gymnasts already cut an impressive figure in their striking navy and lime green leotards and have come to be a name to be reckoned with on the floor and vault.

Girls train two or three times a week at lunch times and after school, with commitments in the holidays and at weekends to travel to competitions around the country.

Lisa Nixson, Assistant Director of Sport, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for girls who show real flair, enthusiasm and the ability to work as a team member, performing in front of sometimes hundreds of people is a great confidence booster.

“The skills they gain through this training, such as core stability, fine and gross motor skills feed in to other sporting disciplines. Gym also supports learning in the classroom as the girls develop resilience and the ability to self-organise.”

The Langdale Scholarships for Gymnastics are open to girls of all ages who can demonstrate real potential in the floor and vault disciplines. Applicants will be auditioned in school on Thursday, January 19.

The scholarship is named after Danni Langdale, a former Adcote schoolgirl and star gymnast who competed aged 7-18 and was an ISA National Champion. Danni is now spending her gap year working in the prestigious Timbertop outdoor learning centre in Australia assisting teachers in the P.E. Department.

Girls should provide a portfolio of awards and achievements and a letter of recommendation from their coach.

For all other scholarships – in English, Maths, Science, Art, Drama, Music, Sport, Achievement (including one for Lower School entry) – examinations will be held on January 20.
