When Keira Diavati was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a few years ago, she felt confused about the condition that had turned her life upside down.
Now the Year 8 student has designed and launched her very own diabetes advice website in a bid to help other people newly diagnosed with the condition.
‘The Diabee’ website aims to give simple advice and support and even has a ‘diabetic dictionary’ containing all the medical terms related to diabetes to help people understand what they mean.
Keira also talks about her personal journey since diagnosis and writes an updated weekly blog to share her own experience and give related advice.
“When I was diagnosed I was confused about what was going on and what was happening to me. So I wanted to make a website that would make things clearer for other people when they are diagnosed,” she said.
“I was five when I was diagnosed and the doctors used long words that I didn’t understand. That’s why I’ve included a diabetic dictionary that says what everything means.”
Keira, aged 12, who wants to pursue a career in science, designed and built the website in her bedroom at home. Please take a look, it’s fantastic! https://thediabee.wixsite.com/thediabee
