Welcome to the Adcote School website. Whether you are a regular visitor, or if this is your first visit, I hope you will enjoy browsing and find this site to be a useful source of information about life at Adcote.

I am very proud to be Headmistress of this prestigious school which has, for over a century, been educating girls in a tradition of excellence. Adcote is a unique and vibrant girls’ school, where girls, from September 2016 can join at aged seven into Year 3 and continue their education until they are eighteen years old. We offer superb pastoral care, outstanding academic results and a broad and well-balanced curriculum. The school’s recent success has attracted many new pupils and word of our strong reputation is spreading across Shropshire.

Despite its imposing exterior, Adcote is proud of its welcoming, friendly and unpretentious reputation. The school’s size, of around two hundred pupils, means that the children, staff and parents really get to know each other. There is a tangible sense of community, creating a warm and enabling atmosphere. Adcote is the only ‘girls only’ independent school from 7-18 in the whole of Shropshire. Single sex schools have not only proved to be successful in achieving high examination grades, they give the girls and young ladies opportunities for leadership and uninhibited participation in all areas and at all levels. Very importantly, politeness, good manners – including table manners and a smart appearance are all important parts of an Adcote education.

As Headmistress, I believe passionately in the importance of the individual. I believe that every child has the ability to excel in at least one particular area and that it is our job to discover and nurture these talents. Every girl at Adcote, when she leaves the school should feel she has achieved all she can both academically and intellectually. Adcote produces polite, confident, enquiring and well-rounded young ladies who are equipped to play full and constructive roles in an ever changing society.

We are fortunate to be located in a beautiful rural setting with a magnificent Grade I listed building. Adcote was originally a country house built for the Darby family and designed by the famous architect Norman Shaw RA. The 30 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland surrounding the school cannot be underestimated, not only as wonderful recreational space, with tennis and netball courts and a forest school site but also as a reminder of the school’s life story. These wonderful gardens provide an incredibly safe, secure and idyllic backdrop to this historic school.

Enthusiastic and dedicated teaching professionals are the essence of Adcote’s success. Small class sizes make individual attention a reality. Specialist learning support is always available and similarly, expertise in challenging the gifted and talented pupils ensures that all the girls fulfil and exceed their potential in at least one field of study. The two computer suites and integrated Information Technology in classrooms provide the girls with the knowledge and skills to expand and explore twenty first century technology.

Perhaps Adcote’s greatest achievement is the variety and breadth of education that it provides for its pupils. Both day girls and boarders benefit from excellent tuition in a range of activities including tennis, horse riding, gymnastics and swimming as well as plenty of healthy competition with local schools in netball, hockey and other sports.

Independent School Inspectors reported that the school ‘Fully achieves its aims to deliver successful educational achievements through good teaching, leading to pupils meeting and generally exceeding individual academic expectations.’ Adcote pupils were ‘articulate, polite and their behaviour is exceptionally good’. They also found that ‘Pupils’ respect for others and their interest and care for each other are of a high order.’ This is testament to the superb pastoral care and of the overriding ethos of the school: respect, courtesy, good manners and kindness are actively encouraged. The girls’ achievements, whatever their nature, are highly regarded, allowing the girls to develop a sense of their own significance and pride.

Adcote School provides superb value for money, termly fees are inclusive and scholarships are available. If, as a parent, you are looking for a school which delivers ‘traditional excellence’ in every sense of the word then Adcote School is your answer. Please do arrange an appointment to meet me and to have an informal school tour. We would all be delighted to see you here and offer you a very warm welcome.
