On Thursday the 12th of May 2016 Adcote School held its Summer Concert, which was a huge success. The warm weather coupled with the beautiful grounds of Adcote School made for the perfect setting for an evening of musical talent from the youngest to the oldest in the School.
The many choirs performed a mix of different pieces. The Chamber Choir, a new choir made up of the Schools’ best vocalists performed Madrigals. This Choir promotes the ability to sight sing, sing in different languages and music theory. Disney hits were performed by the Youth Choir of pupils from year 7 and 8, with the Senior Choir also performing.
The Orchestra performed film extracts from blockbusters such as “Star Wars” and Lionel Bart’s “Oliver”! The String Ensemble, made up of the Schools’ most promising violinists and cellists, performed excerpts from “Four seasons”, whilst the newly formed Flute Choir made up of four of the Schools’ most talented flautists performed “The Pink Panther theme”. Both groups have members from the Junior School right up to the Sixth Form. Many other soloists and groups performed, honourable mentions include a fantastic vocal duet “For Good” from the hit west end musical “Wicked”. This was performed by Year 7 pupils Maddie Croall and Freya Owen and a violin piece “Chanson de Matin” by Elgar performed by Marta Cymerman. A trio of Juniors, Grace Parker, Emilia Blackwell and Rose Clayton-Wright performed a musical theatre piece called “Waiting Waiting” that greatly amused the audience.
Parents were overheard saying “Adcote has a fantastic range of musical talent that is very well rounded” “It was a great success” and “All performances were of a very high standard”.
The next concert I am sure will be another success. Thank you to Mrs Jane Magee Head of Music for her efforts in organising this fantastic event, and also to all of the instrumental and vocal teachers for helping to get all of the performances ready for the concert.
