Opportunities for All

The school offers all pupils the chance to take part in school and class performances. In the Summer Term the whole school presented a version of The Pied Piper in the beautiful gardens on a perfect sunny afternoon. Over eighty pupils had significant parts, some as young as five years old and some of the senior girls did the back stage duties. The performance included dance, drama singing and live music. Plans are already in hand for next year’s performance of Alice in Wonderland.
In the early part of the year the senior girls and some from year eight performed a new comedy High School Mutiny by local author and playwright Joan Shirley in the Walker Theatre in Shrewsbury to excellent reviews. At Christmas the senior girls performed a pantomime for the Junior School
Adcote is also strong in music and singing. We have an annual House music competition and the Petit Cup competition, both of which attracted a large number of entries. There were both singers and instrumentalists. Instruments included piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone and violin. Mr Richard White, who used to be the music adviser for Shropshire, was this year's adjudicator and he gave positive and useful comments to all the competitors. The standard of entries were extremely high.
The school choir continues to flourish and this year they sang in a variety of events from Christmas carols in the community to performing musical theatre numbers at Speech Day.
Juniors
The Junior department will put on a major production every year, usually at Christmas. There is often, but not always, a Christmas theme, and all of the girls will be involved.
GCSE and A-level work
Drama is growing in popularity and excellent drama results at GCSE provides a good lauching point, with all the candidates achieving A or B grades. We are delighted that some of our senior girls are auditioning for drama and dance colleges around the country and we will work with them to help develop their audition techniques.
