Christmas Past and Present
Monday, 09 November 2009 20:11

This year's seasonal production by Adcote Juniors was specially created as a preview to the school's centenary celebrations which officially begin in January 2007. An audience of parents, friends and fellow pupils were joined by the Deputy Mayor Councillor John Cooke and his wife.

Researched and written by Adcote teacher, Caroline Stanfield, the girls performed "Christmas at Adcote Past & Present". A split stage was used to depict the early days with founding Headmistress Mrs Amy Gough, played by Eliza Brown, and her pupils. On the other side, present day staff and pupils, were led by Sarah Underwood as Debbie Hammond, the school's present Head. Whilst Clemmie Moody as Rebecca Darby acted as the narrator, introducing the characters and giving an insight into the differences between the pupils' lives now and then.

The 'action' was interspersed with traditional and contemporary Christmas songs and a delightful nativity scene by Reception Class pupils Xana da Costa Maia, Ella Hammond and Emily Roberts. Spanning the years the play ended with the 'thoughts' of both 'Heads' on Adcote past and present. 'Mrs Gough' was pleased to see that her vision of providing pupils with a realistic and sound education in a family atmosphere had continued and 'Miss Hammond' emphasised the school's commitment to encourage pupils to achieve their best and to remember the true meaning of Christmas which is caring about one another.
