Adcote Juniors' Success at Literary Festival
Wednesday, 25 November 2009 10:09
Junior School pupils from Adcote proved they were extremely “well versed” at a recent festival hosted by Moreton Hall with all twelve of the students who entered achieving a commendation or merit in their age group.

Established in 1982, the annual Shropshire Festival of Verse and Prose, attracts over 500 entrants in approximately 40 classes with participants from local schools competing against pupils from as far away as Wilmslow, Wolverhampton and Denbigh.

For Adcote, eleven-year-old Gabrielle Brisbourne's performance of If I Were a Shape earned her a commendation. Her achievement was matched in the aged ten category by Lara Williamson's recital of the The Painting Lesson and Hannah Spalding's Since Hanna Moved Away.

Merit certificates were awarded to ten-year-olds Florence Galliers (for Extremely Naughty Children), Harriett Fallon (for The Months of the Year), Olivia Callaghan (for Ginger Cat) and Sumnima Pun (for The Witch) as well as nine-year-old Holly Morgan's performance of Spike Milligan's The Polar Bear.

Not to be outdone the youngest Adcote entrants, eight-year-olds Abbie Spalding, Emily Roberts, Amelia Callaghan and Ella Hammond were also were awarded a merit for their respective renditions of The crocodile, Rain in Summer, Spells and Winter Days.

Head of Adcote Juniors, Ann Ravenscroft-Jones told us, “I was delighted by all their performances and pleased for the girls that the hard work and commitment they had shown in preparing for the festival resulted in their achievements being recognised with so much success.”
