Adcote Girls go Backstage
Wednesday, 25 November 2009 09:50
A dozen senior girls from Adcote School visited The Garrick Theatre, in Lichfield , for a back stage tour as part of their BTEC Performing Arts Course. ‘We were able to ask about the running of the theatre with the deputy manager.' said Kim Michelle Brown. ‘He explained the tasks that faced a provincial theatre, and how ‘Bums on seats' governed most of what they have to do.'

As part of the tour the girls watched the visiting company build the set and plot the lighting for the evening performance. They were then able to question the technical director. ‘I was surprised just how easily the very complicated set fitted together,' said 18 year old student, Sarah Thomas, ‘and they have to build the set and take it down each week as they travel the country.'

The visit was arranged by their tutor, ex Coronation Street actor Danny Davies. ‘It is important that the girls see the real side of working in Theatre and understand the wide range of job opportunities that exist outside of acting,' he said.
