Adcote School for Girls has recently announced the appointment of this year's head girls and their deputies.
In the Senior School, new head girl, Bryony Milliken will be assisted by Frances Jones as her deputy. For the boarders, sixteen-year-old Kim-Michelle Brown takes on the dual roles of head of boarding and games captain supported by Sarah Thomas as her deputy in the Boarding House.
Bryony (17), who enjoys rowing and singing in here spare time is currently studying Religious Studies, English and BTEC Drama and hopes to read Philosophy at University next year. She told us “Being made head girl was quite unexpected especially as I was deputy head for boarding last year. But I'm really enjoying it and we've already started working on the Sixth Form Charity Party to raise lots of money for ‘Help for Heroes'.”
Deputy head girl, Frances (also 17), was equally surprised but delighted by her appointment. A fellow choir member with Bryony, she also enjoys helping out on the farm at home when she's not in school. Currently studying Geography, Food and a BTEC in Drama , Frances hopes to pursue a career in catering.
Kim-Michelle may be a familiar face to some of you following her appearance on Blue Peter in December 2005, when the programme featured the lives and views of boarding school pupils from several schools across the country. She is currently studying History, Psychology, Religious Studies together with a BTEC and A level in Drama but hasn't decided yet whether she will continue to follow her love of Archaeology with a History degree or her love of Drama and the Performing Arts.
When we asked Kim-Michelle if it was unusual for the roles of head of boarding and games captain to be combined she told us “I've certainly not known it before but I am really looking forward to it. In my role as head of boarding, in addition to sorting out the wake up call rotas etc., I will also be in charge of organising the house competitions. Whilst as games captain I'm looking forward to encouraging our netball teams to achieve even greater success and seeing our excellent gymnasts add to their already impressive trophy cabinet.”
Deputy head of boarding, eighteen-year-old Sarah Thomas, whose interests include singing, sports and acting is currently studying AS Drama, BTEC Drama and an NVQ level 2 in Child Care and plans to follow her long-held ambition to work with young children.
Adcote's Junior School head girl is ten-year-old Sumnima Pun. She will be assisted by newly appointed Junior School prefects, eleven-year-old Gabrielle Brisbourne and ten-year-old Florence Galliers. Sumnima, who enjoys Art and History, told us she was “excited and surprised” by her appointment. Medal-winning gymnasts Gabriella and Florence were both “pleased” to be prefects and said they would be doing everything they could to help Sumnima.
Adcote's headmaster, Gary Wright, added, “The staff and myself are delighted by the appointments. We are sure that they will all be role models who will take their responsibilities seriously and set an excellent example for their fellow pupils to follow.” |
