Monarchy Concert at Adcote School
Monday, 09 November 2009 21:21

Adcote School hosted another big, bright concert on Saturday evening, 20th June. Six hundred people gathered on the South lawn at Adcote School to watch and listen to a variety of performers, including the Queen Tribute Band, Monarchy.

When the gates opened at ten o'clock in the morning many ticket holders took the opportunity to prepare for the evening's event by putting up a gazebo and placing tables and chairs. By five o'clock that evening the large garden boasted a perimeter of pretty tents. Then the six hundred began to flood through the gates of the school. Everyone was carrying food and furniture. Some laid their really lavish picnics on tablecloths on the grass and others shared their sandwiches and drinks while sitting in deck chairs.

While people settled they were entertained by Natalie Prudence and the Street Style Dancers; the Adcote School dance group who had performed at the Royal Albert Hall in May. They were followed by the Steve Day Band; a strong rock ‘n roll band who played many favourites and played some great guitar solos.

Soon after 8.30 the crowd, full of goodwill and enthusiasm, loudly cheered when Monarchy took the stage. From the beginning the tribute band performed the best of the Queen songs with verve and vigour. The Freddy Mercury singer was very “Freddy Mercury”. Within a few minutes the grass in front of the stage was heaving with people dan cing and singing. And it stayed that way until the band played their last song, ‘We are the Champions'.

Within a few minutes of Monarchy leaving the stage, a fabulous firework display began. The dark skies were beautiful with showers of sparks and plumes of fire and colour; the star and Chinese lantern fireworks were particularly remarkable. The bright display was reflected in the huge windows of the Great Hall. By eleven o'clock the cheerful crowd began to pack up picnics and leave.

The concert raised some funds in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund.

Next year Adcote will host an ABBA tribute band on the 19th June.
