Business Studies Visit
Monday, 28 June 2010 10:07

OnFriday 18th June eleven GCSE and AS Business Studies students visited Mediation Works at Wellington, Telford, as part of the curriculum. Mr Stuart Guthrie gave a presentation of Mediation Works, a community interest company dealing in conflict resolution in families, in the community and in organisations. They have 80% success rate. There was an opportunity for students to ask questions about the business. The students were then divided into two groups and given a guided tour of the business. We were made to feel welcome by all staff at Mediation Works, they had even laid on snacks for us like iced buns and doughnuts. It was a pleasant and informative visit and an eye opener to see how much is involved in running a business in the real world.

Adcote Summer Concert 2010
Thursday, 24 June 2010 13:18

Adcote School hosted another successful concert on Saturday evening, 19th June. Seven hundred people gathered on the South lawn at Adcote School to watch and listen to a variety of performers, including the Abba tribute band, Bjorn Belief.

Many ticket holders took the opportunity to prepare for the evening's event by putting up a gazebo and placing tables and chairs. By five o'clock that evening the large garden boasted a perimeter of pretty tents. Then over seven hundred began to flood through the gates of the school. Everyone was carrying food and furniture.

While people settled they were entertained by the Street Style Dancers; the Adcote School dance group who will be perfoming at EuroDisney in the summer. They were followed by the vocalist Laura Broad and a local group, Mr Dog.

The crowd, full of goodwill and enthusiasm, loudly cheered when Bjorn Belief took the stage. From the beginning the tribute band performed the best of the Abba songs with verve and vigour. Within a few minutes the grass in front of the stage was heaving with people dancing and singing. And it stayed that way until the band played their last song, ‘Dancing Queen'.

Within a few minutes of Bjorn Belief leaving the stage, a fabulous firework display began. The dark skies were beautiful with showers of sparks and plumes of fire and colour. The bright display was reflected in the huge windows of the Great Hall. By eleven o'clock the cheerful crowd began to pack up picnics and leave. There was a wonderful atmosphere to the evening and a great time was had by all.

Pettit Cup 2010
Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:44
This year there were nineteen entries for the Pettit cup. Girls from the junior department right through to sixth form took part. There were both singers and instrumentalists. Instruments included piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone and violin. All girls performed well and the afternoon was enjoyed by the girls and parents who were in the audience.

Mr Richard White, who used to be the music adviser for Shropshire, was this year's adjudicator and he gave positive and useful comments to all the competitors. In the end the prizes were awarded to Evie Ford for her violin playing (best performance), Emily Bright for her singing (best junior performance) and Florence Galliers for her piano playing (most promising musician).

Our thanks go to both our instrumental teachers for preparing the girls so well and to the girls who performed so well.

Mrs J Magee
Head of Music

Year 9 visited RAF Cosford on Monday 24th May. There were various scientific assignments to complete on the day.

The weather was perfect and the girls very much enjoyed the visit.

It was a fantastic experience for a well behaved group of girls who had the chance to see at first hand how an RAF base functions.

Pictured are Year 9 in front of a British World War 2 bomber.
