Adcote Girls Excel at National Competition
Monday, 09 November 2009 21:15

Last weekend a team from Adcote School competed for the first time in the Girls Independent School Gymnastic Association national championships in Guildford, Surrey. The competition sees teams from all around the world competing together in a number of different gymnastic routines.

In the Under 13's group Adcote faced opposition from some very large and established gym schools but following outstanding performances from all five of their gymnasts, the school was placed 4th overall out of 18 teams. For this part of the competition the girls had to complete a voluntary floor routine, a set floor routine and 2 types of vaults. They also completed a group routine and were placed 3rd.

This is a tremendous result for first timers and the school is already looking forward to the competition next year.

Mrs Gilly Hartley and Will Stop from the NSPCC visited Adcote on Thursday 13th November to say thank you to all the girls on the Junior school for raising £319.24 in their recent Numberthon challenge.

Not content with this, Adcote Juniors have also once again been collecting a huge amount of toy filled shoe boxes for Charity. Operation Christmas Child is run by the Salvation Army, and every year they ask for people to donate one shoe box filled with toys for less fortunate boys and girls around the world. The Adcote girls found the idea of helping less fortunate people appealing and have spared no effort to get together as many boxes as possible. Well Done!
