‘Red Day’ appeal raises funds for Haiti
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 20:40

Pupils at Adcote School held a non-uniform “wear red” day on Wednesday 27th January to raise funds to support the Red Cross, who are assisting victims of the Haitian earthquake. In a fantastic response from all concerned, the pupils raised over £150 on the day.  Well done to all who helped and contributed to this excellent cause, and to Haughton House and in particular Emily Brown who helped to organise the event.

This is how our donation could help:

£15 Could provide five mosquito nets to protect a family of five

£30 could provide three tarpaulin sheets to help those who have had their homes destroyed

£50 could provide hygiene kits for three families affected by the earthquake

Shelter Box Presentation
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 08:11

On Tuesday 26th January, Mr. Peter Hodgson from the Welshpool Rotary Club came into school to give a moving presentation to the girls on the work that the Shelter Box charity does around the world, including the assistance they have provided in Haiti following the recent earthquake.

They learnt how this charity provides first response humanitarian aid to victims of both natural and man-made disasters by distributing boxes containing essential survival equipment to those whose homes have been destroyed.

A Shelter Box contains an amazing amount - including shelter, blankets, cooking equipment, water purification supplies (enough to purify water for three months) and other equipment.

The school plans to dedicate several of its forthcoming charity events to raising money for this concern. If you wish to find out more about ‘Shelterbox’, you can visit their website at www.shelterbox.org
