On Tuesday 4th May, Bee Jenkins from ‘Africa & Asia Venture’ came to Adcote to talk to the Year 12 girls about the possibility of taking a Gap year before starting University.  Africa & Asia Venture place volunteers from around the globe into worthwhile gap year and volunteer projects all over the developing world.

The presentation was very informative and gave the audience plenty of ideas for a possible Gap year, that would not only be extremely rewarded but also would be vital work experience to add to the C.V.

Anyone for Tennis?
Sunday, 09 May 2010 16:24

On Wednesday 5th May, the Adcote Parent and Staff Association (APSA) organised a ladies tennis tournament. Many Adcote Old Girls took part. A wonderful day of competitive tennis was enjoyed by all participants, with a sumptuous lunch also provided. A large gazebo was on hand for the participants to shelter in from the early May weather and the ladies were able watch the matches taking place.

Well done to everyone who took part in the successful and enjoyable event and also to the winners of the tournament: Mary Chester and Helen Sedgeley! Also many thanks to the organiser Fenella Davies and to the many other kind parents who helped out with the event and with the lunch provided.

Tennis has grown from strength to strength over the last few years at Adcote, and with the support of a LTA qualified tennis coach the school is developing a strong squad of players. All tennis pupils have the opportunity to receive weekly coaching at the School through the services of Mike Markham. Please contact the School Office for further details.

Midlands ISA Netball Tournament

On Saturday 6th March, the U14 netball team that consists of Charly Hickman, Clemmie Moody, Aisha Brown, Gabby Green, Eliza Brown, Natasha Tait and Lorraine Makuvaza, went to Idsall School to participate in the Midlands ISA Netball Tournament. The girls played very well against some talented teams, they proved that they could perform well under pressure which resulted in them coming 4th overall.

North Shropshire Netball Tournament

On Wednesday 10th March, Adcote travelled to Moreton Hall to compete in the North Shropshire Netball tournament. The U14 team got through the rounds and were up against Ellesmere College in the semi-final. Both teams played exceptionally well and at full time the score was 5-5. This meant the girls had to play again in order to determine who was to make it through to the final. The score was still 0-0 coming up to the final whistle but just after the Ellesmere shooter had released the ball the whistle went. The goal was scored which meant that Ellesmere were to compete in the final. It was a fantastic performance by all the players in the U14 who have also proven to be unbeatable in the North Shropshire Netball League.

As the U14s were competing at Moreton Hall, the U11 girls were at Prestfelde School competing in the Prestfelde Tournament. The girls played well and made it through to the final 6 out of 15 teams. A fantastic performance by the U11's.

Community Police Officers pay Adcote a visit
Monday, 15 March 2010 18:24

The Community Police Officers came to visit the Juniors on the 11th March to give the girls a chance to find out how the police work.

Visits like this are a very important part of the life of the school, helping the girls to develop an understanding of the importance of good citizenship in the wider community as well as how they can help each other within the school community.

Pupils were able to see a patrol car and they were also given the chance to use some of the equipment in the vehicles – the blue lights and sirens were particularly popular!

Help for Heroes Non-Uniform Day
Monday, 08 March 2010 21:31
On Wednesday 3rd March  Innage House and their House captain, Charlotte Lloyd-Jones, organised a non-uniform day in aid of 'Help for Heroes'. Pupils made a donation to come dressed as their favourite hero or heroine. Some staff also got dressed up as some of their favourite heroes.

During morning break and lunch break the girls enjoyed a cake sale and competing in a quiz in the Great Hall.

The girls had a wonderful day dressed up in order to raise the money, but again the girls showed the charitable spirit behind what they did, and what inspired them to want to raise money for Help for Heroes.

We are still collating the total amount raised but our congratulations go to the girls for their fantastic achievement and they were definitely real life heroines themselves for their efforts!
