Horse Blessing
Wednesday, 02 June 2010 21:15

Horses belonging to Adcote parents and other horses from the local community have been blessed in a special ceremony at the school.

Adcote Chaplain, the Rev Les Foster, conducted the traditional open-air ceremony. It is an old local tradition that wishes the horses well for the main summer season.

A real buzz in the air!
Sunday, 23 May 2010 21:00

Honeybee numbers are falling at near catastrophic levels - 30% at the last count. Both the junior and senior girls at Adcote learnt firsthand about their plight and saw for themselves a hive in operation.  Mr and Mrs Green of Berwick Beekeepers came into school on Thursday 20th May with an enclosed hive.

Bee keeping is becoming very popular and we are planning to have a bee-keeping club at Adcote next year. We already have some budding apiarists in the school. Celebrity bee-keepers include Scarlett Johansson, Bill Turnbull, Vince Cable, Ronnie Corbett and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

LAMDA success!
Sunday, 23 May 2010 20:37

The girls of the Junior Department at Adcote School have recently taken their LAMDA examinations (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) in spoken English, with excellent results. Over half of the girls received a distinction, which is the highest possible mark, with the rest producing very high merits.

All of the girls worked incredibly hard and gave great performances on the day and we are all very proud of them. What a talented group!

Bag 2 School now at Adcote
Sunday, 23 May 2010 20:24

The Eco School Team have enrolled Adcote in the Bag2School programme. This programme recycles and reuses old clothes and is a "win / win" idea for the Eco School team.

We save old clothes from going to landfill – over 1.5 million tons of clothes and thrown away each year in the UK! We get paid 40p for each kilogram we collect!

The Bag 2 School programme takes our clothes and then reuses them in countries such as India, China and Eastern Europe. More information can be found on www.bag2school.com.

Your daughter has been given a bag and a letter explaining the scheme and it would be great if this can be filled and then returned to school before half term, or on the first day of next half term. Bag2School are making a collection on the 8th June!

You can put almost any old clothes in the bag - ladies', men's and children's clothing, sheets, curtains, soft toys, shoes (tied together please), belts and handbags

But not

Dirty clothing, single shoes, bits of material, mats, carpets, pillows, duvets

The Eco Team say "Please help us save the environment – and make some money for Adcote and the Eco Team!

Juniors visit Little Ness Church
Wednesday, 12 May 2010 06:36

On Thursday 6th May, Junior 1 visited Little Ness Church as part of their Religious Education curriculum. They were met by Rev. Les Foster at the ‘Lynch Gate’ and were told about the history of St. Martin’s Church and why the Lynch Gate has a lock on it (to keep the sheep out of the church yard!).

Rev Foster answered the girls questions about the building and the services at the church. Rev Foster also showed the girls the elaborate vestments he wears on different occasions. On leaving the church, the girls were shown the grave of Rebecca Darby and the other members of the Darby family. Afterwards, Harriet Gough and Danielle Edwards thanked Rev Foster and gave him three cheers.

Sporting Update - Summer Term
Monday, 10 May 2010 13:37
On Wednesday 28th April, Adcote travelled the short distance to Prestfelde School to play two rounders fixtures. We played their U12 and U13 teams. Our U12 team faced a challenge as the girls from Adcote were playing a team that are a year older.

The first game of the season proved challenging for both teams. Prestfelde took the win in both the U12 and U13 match.

The girls face their own age group on Wednesday 12th May as we travel back to Prestfelde to play an U11 fixture.

The North Shropshire League failed to start last week for Adcote who were due to play Thomas Adams. Bad weather conditions caused Thomas Adams to call off the game.
