Adcote School News
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

On Thursday and Friday last week parents and friends at Adcote School were treated to an evening of first class dance, drama and singing. The show, simply entitled "That's Entertainment", involved most of the girls in the school and was a showcase for performance pieces created in and outside of lessons.

The 'Street Style Dance Com pany' and the 'Lights, Camera, Action (LCA) Dance Com pany', both based at Adcote School , performed original dances choreographed by Adcote pupils. Year 10 GCSE drama students performed a chilling adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde featuring shadow puppets alongside costumed actors. Year 8 produced an original piece of drama entitled 'Captain Pugwash' whilst year 7 retold the story of the Hare and the Hedgehog.

Musical highlights included 'With One Look' sung by Vicky Matthews and 'When Sunny Gets Blue' sung by Kelsey Horton. Emily Brown's haunting rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream' from Les Miserables brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience, whilst Alex MacDonald and Kim-Michelle Brown's version of 'Popular' from the musical 'Wicked' left the house in stitches of laughter.

The evening helped to raise funds for three Adcote dancers, Jemma Hoadley, Vicky Matthews and Natalie Prudence, who are travelling to New York for a week at the end of May to train with professional Broadway dancers and choreographers as part of their BTech in Dance.

Fun ride raises £500 for Prince's charity

Each year Adcote's Fun Ride raises funds for charity. The latest organisation to benefit is Sentebale (forget-me-not) - Prince Harry's Fund to help children and young people in Lesotho . Representatives from the event's organisers and girls from the school were invited to come down to London to present the cheque at Clarence House. Pictured are Adcote girls with representatives from Fun Ride organisers Malcolm Warner and Ursula Prudence presenting the cheque to Geoffrey Matthews outside Clarence House.

Eliza Brown one of Adcote's Junior School pupils told us, "The policeman let us into Clarence House where we presented the cheque for £500. We were also invited to see the Queen's Chapel where Queen Victoria was married and there was a special painting on the ceiling of the Queen's corgis' heads! It was a great day and a lovely experience to go to Clarence House."

Since their visit the school has received a personal letter of thanks from Geoffrey Matthews, Chief Executive of Sentebale, thanking them for "their extraordinary kindness and generosity".

Sentebale's joint founders and patrons are Prince Seeiso of Lesotho and Prince Harry. The charity offers long-term support to community organisations working with children and young people and in particular to those working with orphans and other vulnerable children.

Prince Harry's connection with Lesotho began in 2004 when he visited the country as the guest of Prince Seeiso and served as a volunteer with a number of organisations working with disadvantaged children. During his visit the two princes became good friends and decided to launch their own charity.

This year's Adcote Fun Ride will be held on Sunday 23rd September 2007.
