High School Mutiny

Over twenty girls from Adcote School were involved in the production of the school play which was successfully performed on 23rd March at Shrewsbury’s Walker Theatre. The play was deemed a great success by the large audience in the theatre. Very well done to the cast and director Mr. Davies.

Sporting Update

Midlands ISA Netball Tournament

On Saturday 6th March, the U14 netball team that consists of Charly Hickman, Clemmie Moody, Aisha Brown, Gabby Green, Eliza Brown, Natasha Tait and Lorraine Makuvaza, went to Idsall School to participate in the Midlands ISA Netball Tournament. The girls played very well against some talented teams, they proved that they could perform well under pressure which resulted in them coming 4th overall.

North Shropshire Netball Tournament

On Wednesday 10th March, Adcote travelled to Moreton Hall to compete in the North Shropshire Netball tournament. The U14 team got through the rounds and were up against Ellesmere College in the semi-final. Both teams played exceptionally well and at full time the score was 5-5. This meant the girls had to play again in order to determine who was to make it through to the final. The score was still 0-0 coming up to the final whistle but just after the Ellesmere shooter had released the ball the whistle went. The goal was scored which meant that Ellesmere were to compete in the final. It was a fantastic performance by all the players in the U14 who have also proven to be unbeatable in the North Shropshire Netball League.

As the U14s were competing at Moreton Hall, the U11 girls were at Prestfelde School competing in the Prestfelde Tournament. The girls played well and made it through to the final 6 out of 15 teams. A fantastic performance by the U11's.

Shropshire Schools Voluntary Floor and Vault Gymnastics Competition

On Saturday 20th March an U11 gymnastics team from Adcote competed in the Shropshire Schools Voluntary Floor and Vault Competition. Florence Galliers, Millie Callaghan, Emily Bright and Lara Williamson went over to Shrewsbury High School to compete in the event.

Adcote Eco Schools Update - 19th March

The Adcote Eco Team were excited this week when the items ordered as part of the grant from Shropshire Community Recycling Ltd  (SCRL) started to arrive!  They are pictrured here putting half way through putting together 25 paper recycling points for classrooms!  These will encourage the girls (and staff) to recycle 100% of paper next term.  Other items ordered include two wormeries, composting bins, recycling points for the Boarding House and items for the Eco Team themselves. Members of the sixth form are helping the Junior girls and have designed a possible logo for the group!

The School is gratefyul to SCRL for the grant - and more information about the organisation can be found on their web site www.scrl.org.uk/

Community Police Officers pay Adcote a visit

The Community Police Officers came to visit the Juniors on the 11th March to give the girls a chance to find out how the police work.

Visits like this are a very important part of the life of the school, helping the girls to develop an understanding of the importance of good citizenship in the wider community as well as how they can help each other within the school community.

Pupils were able to see a patrol car and they were also given the chance to use some of the equipment in the vehicles – the blue lights and sirens were particularly popular!

Help for Heroes Non-Uniform Day
On Wednesday 3rd March  Innage House and their House captain, Charlotte Lloyd-Jones, organised a non-uniform day in aid of 'Help for Heroes'. Pupils made a donation to come dressed as their favourite hero or heroine. Some staff also got dressed up as some of their favourite heroes.

During morning break and lunch break the girls enjoyed a cake sale and competing in a quiz in the Great Hall.

The girls had a wonderful day dressed up in order to raise the money, but again the girls showed the charitable spirit behind what they did, and what inspired them to want to raise money for Help for Heroes.

We are still collating the total amount raised but our congratulations go to the girls for their fantastic achievement and they were definitely real life heroines themselves for their efforts!

Theatre and...

Doctor Who  and other well known TV, film and sport personalities were caricatured in a theatrical presentation highlighting careers options for Year 10 and 11 students at Adcote School.

The ‘Stay In Learning’ presentation was courtesy of the theatre company “Theatre and”. Theatre and’s three actors played all the characters in an entertaining, fastpaced, fun  show, full of cultural references and incorporating the latest pop music. They conveyed the importance of life-long learning as well as exploring the choices and routes open to young people post 16.

Army Helicopter Visit
It is not a sight you expect to see – a helicopter on the school grounds! On Thursday 4th March an army 'squirrel' helicopter landed in front of the school! It was extremely exciting, pupils and staff had been waiting with anticipation during their afternoon break time before it arrived. The landing was particularly impressive as it swept into view. Afterwards some lucky girls had the opportunity to take a closer look and sit inside the helicopter.

Adcote School awarded grant for recycling

The school has been awarded a £980 grant from SCRL to be used to fund equipment for recycling kitchen waste and paper/cardboard.

Headmaster, Gary Wright said "The school’s eco committee carried out an audit and then an action plan was drawn up to decide on the areas, where we could, as a school, become more environmentally and ecologically aware. I am delighted that we have been awarded this grant from Shropshire Community Recycling Ltd."

He added "I believe that the girls are learning a valuable lesson about recycling, which they will be able to share at home. At the same time they are supporting a scheme that will improve our own school environment”

Army Careers Talk

Students from Years 10, 11 and our Sixth Form were treated to a presentation by the Army. Lieutenant Alice Wheeler (pictured), currently serving with the Royal Artillery, gave an extremely interesting account of what life as a female officer in the modern British army was like. This was followed by a short talk from Colonel Moody about what the army are looking for in a potential officer.

Adcote Inter-House Competitions

Glenmore win Inter-House Hockey tournament

On Wednesday 10th February Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils from Adcote School took part in the House Hockey Tournament. With games flowing to and fro, it was exciting to see the skills of so many young players. All the teams played very well and the competition was close between Haughton and Glenmore. Haughton played exceptionally well throughout the competition but were beaten to the title by Glenmore on goal difference. The hockey was exciting and skilful to watch but, more importantly, so was the spirit of inclusion shown by those more able players to their team mates.

Haughton win Inter-House Cross Country tournament

J2 and J3 took part in House Cross Country towards at the end of the Autumn Term. The girls were required to run around a set course around the school grounds. Holly Morgan came in first for Innage. The final results showed that Haughton took first place with Innage and Glenmore coming joint second. It was so pleasing to see that so many could take part with a spirit of fairness and good humour and yet also be highly competitive.

ISA National Gymnastics Championships

Sunday 7th February 2010

The U11 team consisted of Florence Galliers, Lara Williamson, Emily Bright and Millie Callaghan. The girls performed very well in all areas of the competition and came 4th overall.
In the group sequence competition the U11 girls performed their routine exceptionally well and took home the silver medal. The open team, Charly Hickman, Aisha Brown, Danni Langdale and Laura Brown, were invited to compete as guests. The girls performed well but due to injuries on the day they lost out on the gold medal by 0.1.

Aisha Brown was outstanding on the day and gained individual silver followed closely by Danni Langdale who took home the individual bronze medal. Aisha and Danni also had the crowd on their feet after performing a near perfect group sequence to close the competition.
