Individual Support
Our EAL Department offers intensive English language courses to help pupils gain the confidence and skills they need to study effectively and gain maximum benefit from their education at the school. Classes, taught by specialist teachers, are purposely kept small to ensure each girl has individual attention. When they reach an appropriate level they may also be entered for IELTS or one of the University of Cambridge English language examinations which are recognised throughout the world.
Younger overseas pupils attend most, if not all, curriculum English lessons but do not usually do French. Older EAL pupils do not usually study curriculum English so that they can concentrate on studying towards FCE and IELTS.
Occasionally an overseas pupil's English is good enough for her to forego EAL lessons to concentrate on curriculum English. They may also do French if they are able.
Adcote has a long history of teaching overseas pupils and all staff are experienced at accommodating the needs of these pupils in their lessons. Individual help is given to assist each pupil in accessing as much of the curriculum as they are able and staff liaise with our EAL specialist as and when necessary.
