Community Links

Strong Links

Adcote is proud of its strong links with the community. The local vicar is Chaplain to the School and boarders worship regularly at the parish church. Ministers from a range of other local churches also contribute to our assemblies. We are proud of our good relationships with other schools in the area. Local school children are invited to special events such as the Christmas Concert.

Our pupils take part in community service, such as visiting local retirement homes and singing carols in the local village. Adcote pupils are also keen to support local and national charities, such as through non-uniform days or house charities, as well as our regular contributions such as the Harvest Festival. Charities we have supported include Children In Need, Comic Relief, Race for Life, Fair Trade, Operation Christmas Child, the Shoebox Appeal, a ‘Red’ charity day in aid of the British Heart Foundation and a University Challenge Fundraiser (Staff versus Sixth Form) in aid of the Severn Hospice. Each year the Juniors coordinate the Operation Christmas Child collection to send Christmas presents to needy children in Eastern Europe. The annual harvest festival service builds links with Shrewsbury Ark, a drop in centre for homeless and vulnerable people.

Adcote School was delighted to initiate a community service club with the help of a local Rotary Club, Borderlands. The Interact Club is open to pupils from Years 10 to 13 and has the support and guidance of Rotarians from the Borderlands Rotary Club, which meets at Sweeney Hall. We were honoured in 2014 by Shrewsbury Council, who presented the school with a Gold Award, recognising the school’s “outstanding contribution to the community”.

The school and its surroundings provide the perfect environment for girls to enjoy their studies here but we believe it’s important to share them with as many people as we can. The school and its grounds, which feature a wide variety of fine trees, walled gardens and colourful borders, are regularly accessible to the public. For example, in the holidays, we regularly host activity and sport camps to which local children may attend. By arrangement, our tennis facilities are often used in the holidays. The school is the setting for a large number of weddings each year.

The school often stages an open air concert in the school grounds when audiences can have a pre-performance picnic, wander around the gardens and enjoy a wonderful evening’s musical entertainment with a magnificent firework finale. The Great Hall is frequently used as a venue for concerts and recitals and regularly plays host to a number of celebrity performers.

Adcote School is actively looking to develop new partnerships with organisations who may benefit from use of the school’s expertise, resources and facilities. We are always delighted to hear from schools, clubs and other organisations across the local community.
